How to Reset Yourself to Enjoy Your Job

By Lenka Grackova

Do you enjoy your job? Every day, every minute, every second? I am sure you don't! I have never had a job where I enjoyed doing everything, all the time and with everybody. And this is okay. The problem begins when all the negatives start overtaking all that you like about your job.

When this happens, it can put you under a lot of stress. It surely puts me under a lot of stress.

What if you could simply decide that you want to enjoy your job whatever happens?

What if you could simply reset your objective to enjoy your job every day and the found ways to make it happen? You can!

Ready to experiment with yourself? Try these...

1. When you wake up in the morning, tell yourself: "I enjoy my job!"

See how it feels. Do you really want it? Does it feel real or impossible? What thoughts come to your mind when you say it? Take a good note of these thoughts and how they evolve over time.

2. Every day note down activities and situations that you enjoyed or and did not enjoy:

"Today, I enjoyed:"

"Today, I did not enjoy today:"

3. Ask yourself how you can use your observations:

"How can I create more opportunities to do what I enjoyed?"

"How can I cope with things I did not enjoy?"

4. Continue for at least three weeks.

5. Look for patterns, you will be amazed how things are connected!

When I was doing this exercise, I discovered that I was putting too much focus on the negatives rather than on the positives. By constantly reminding myself all the things I enjoyed that day, I started noticing them much more. I was also able to see much more opportunities when and where to do things I enjoyed. I also noticed some behavioral patterns standing in my way to enjoy my job and started addressing them.

You can either use a simple notebook or download this worksheet with some additional details. Enjoy experimenting with yourself!
